Traveling to and from Cliveden House
By Air
If traveling by car, Cliveden House is just 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport or 1 hour 15 minutes by car from Gatwick Airport.
By Car
If traveling from central London by car, Cliveden House is 40 minutes’ travel if you take the M40, Junction 2 or the M4, Junction 7.
By Rail
The nearest train station to Cliveden is Taplow Station, approximately 4 miles from Cliveden House

How far is Cliveden House from local attractions?
Windsor Castle is located in Windsor, approximately 20 minutes from Cliveden House by car
Central London and attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Natural History Museum and Westminster Abbey is approximately 40 minutes from Cliveden House by car.
Highclere Castle, located in Highclere, Hampshire, is approximately 50 minutes from Cliveden House by car.
Frogmore House is located approximately 1 mile from Windsor Castle, and 20 minutes from Cliveden House by car.
Ascot Racecourse is located 30 minutes from Cliveden House by car.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Although your room is available to check-in from 3pm, and check-out is at 11am on the day of departure, guests are welcome to arrive earlier or stay after they’ve checked out to enjoy the hotel bar, restaurants, spa, or explore the Cliveden Estate.
Are children allowed at Cliveden House?
Yes, Cliveden welcomes the whole family.
Is a babysitting service available?
We would be pleased to arrange a babysitting service and will require a minimum of 24-hour notice in order to book one of our experienced babysitters.
Is Cliveden House dog friendly?
Cliveden House welcomes dogs, however please note there are some restrictions regarding dogs within the estate which can be viewed here on the National Trust website.
In the House, dogs are welcome in all public areas except for The Cliveden Dining Room and The Cliveden Spa. Dogs are the full responsibility of their owners and should be well-behaved. Dogs are also not allowed in bedrooms with Hot Tubs.
There will be an additional room charge of £35 per dog per night. Dogs receive a towel, water and food bowls, and a dog bed during their stay. A dog menu is also available.
We do request our guests sign a dog policy agreement when checking-in.
Is parking available?
Parking is available at the House and is free of charge to Cliveden House guests. We request that your car keys are to be handed to the Concierge team.
Can you store my luggage?
Cliveden House would be delighted to store your luggage prior to checking in or prior to your departure.
Do you have Wi-Fi?
Visitors and guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the House.
Can I smoke at Cliveden House?
Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere inside Cliveden House. Please be aware that a breach of the non-smoking policy in your bedroom will incur an additional charge up to the full room rate. There are dedicated external locations that you are most welcome to use.
Need a laundry or ironing service during your stay?
Chargeable dry cleaning and clothes pressing services are available during your stay.
Is electric vehicle charging available?
Yes. Our EV chargers are located at the front of the house by the main entrance. Please refer to the Concierge Team on arrival.
Can I use the Swimming Pools and Gym?
Yes, access to the swimming pool, hot tub, and steam room facilities as well as the gym is included in the room rate for residents.
What did Cliveden House used to be?
Cliveden House was initially built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a hunting lodge where he could entertain his friends and mistress. Since then it has twice been destroyed by fire only to emerge, phoenix-like, more stunning than before.
How old is Cliveden House?
Cliveden House was originally built in 1666 but has since been destroyed by fire twice. The newest iteration of this stunning building was completed in 1851
Who designed Cliveden House?
The architect Charles Barry, responsible for designing Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, was chosen to draw up and rebuild Cliveden after it burned down for a second time. The resulting Italianate villa, the majestic building we see today, is considered to be one of Barry’s masterpieces.
When was Cliveden House renovated?
Between 1984 and 1986 the exterior of the stately home was overhauled by the National Trust whilst interior repairs were completed by what was then the Cliveden Hotel. In 2013, further external work was carried out including the restoration of 300 sash windows and 20 timber doors. The opening of The Cliveden Spa in 2017 marked the completion of a remarkable multi-million pound restoration of Cliveden House in the preceding year, completing the total transformation of this iconic luxury country house hotel.

Can I store valuables during my stay?
Guidance for guests booking overnight accommodation
Guests are strongly advised to store valuables in the safe provided in their bedroom.
For those guests carrying high value items they may wish to use the Hotel’s reception safe.
For items stored in the Hotel safe the company cannot accept liability of any items in excess of
GBP 75,000 total value per guest.
In exceptional circumstances the Company reserves the right to request guests place items
with a security company whilst staying at the Hotel.
If in any doubt, please contact concierge or reception.

Do you have interconnecting rooms?
Our interconnecting rooms include some Classic Double, Deluxe Double, Mansion Deluxe Suites, and Lady Astor Suite.
Do you have family rooms?
Cliveden House features a selection of bedrooms and suites that can accommodation families, including our 2 bedroom Suite-Inchiquin, Spring Cottage, Lady Astor Suite, Prince of Wales Suite, and Junior Suites.
What amenities should I expect in my room?
All guest rooms are equipped with tea and coffee-making facilities, a personal safe, a hairdryer, robes, slippers, and Noble Isle bathroom products. All bedrooms have electronic tablets, allowing you to explore what is on offer in and around the House, order room service, and enjoy an extensive selection of digital magazines and daily newspapers.
How many bedrooms are in Cliveden House?
There are 47 bedrooms of varying styles and categories at Cliveden House, all named after notable personalities associated with Cliveden’s illustrious past such as Nancy Astor, Rudyard Kipling and George Bernard Shaw to name a few. As well as the 47 rooms, there is also Spring Cottage, a three-bedroom secluded luxury hideaway located on the banks of the River Thames within the Cliveden National Trust estate

What time is breakfast served?
Breakfast is currently served from 7:00am – 10:00am Monday to Friday and 7:30am – 10:30 am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Do you have a Gluten-Free Afternoon Tea?
We can cater for all dietary requirements with prior notice, including dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and more. Please specify at the time of booking
What is the dress code in the Cliveden Dining Room?
While jackets and ties are not essential, smart attire would be expected and formal dress would be welcomed. Informal clothing, including ripped denim, trainers, baseball caps, t-shirts, and shorts would be inappropriate for the elegant setting.
